I’ve Joined Leica Akademie Nordics: Teaching, Walking, and Seeing in Copenhagen
There are moments when your practice takes a natural next step. For me, that step is joining Leica Akademie Nordics, the regional chapter of Leica’s education platform that began life in 1930 as the Lehr‑Atelier Wetzlar. It’s a programme designed to help photographers at every level refine their craft with hands‑on workshops and experiences — and I’m excited to contribute.
Why Leica Akademie Nordics?
The Nordics programme is based at Leica Store Copenhagen, right in Indre By near Strøget, where classic design and urban culture meet. The store hosts rotating exhibitions, photo walks and frequent workshops — the ideal environment for learning and the conversations that make learning stick.
You’ll find us at Ny Østergade 3, 1101 København — minutes from Kongens Nytorv and easy to reach by metro or on foot.
What I’ll bring to the Akademie
Over the years, my work has balanced visual journalism and fine‑art street and portrait photography, guided by a simple philosophy: “One Lens For All.” Working with a single prime lens shapes compositional discipline, keeps you nimble, and helps you see. That’s how I teach, too — empower people to trust their eye, simplify their tools, and move with intention.
I’ve taught workshops internationally and recently wrote the e‑book What Are You Looking At? (2024) about the craft of seeing — the same mindset I’ll bring to our sessions in Copenhagen. And if you’ve followed my journey, you’ll know I’ve long used the Leica M for its blend of quiet presence and precision — a perfect fit for how I like to work on the street.
“Morten now also joined the Leica Academy as a resource for workshops.” — from a 2025 profile on my site, reflecting a collaboration that’s grown into this new chapter.
How my sessions will feel
If you’ve read my site or joined one of my classes before, you’ll recognise the rhythm:
- Look first, then frame. We slow down to read light, gesture and colour — or the poetry of monochrome — before we raise the camera.
- One lens, many possibilities. Working simple unlocks creativity; we’ll practice anticipation, timing and clean geometry.
- Iterate together. When time allows, we’ll review images, discuss choices and build a repeatable approach you can take anywhere.
